Training dogs saves lives
Our rescue was established in 2018. Over the years we've realized that training plays an essential part in a dog's success in the home. Training oftentimes prevents dogs from being returned to the rescue or shelter they came from. We've therefore improved upon the way we do things and training is now an integral part of our rescue and rehoming process. We've participated in many training workshops, have shadowed some of the best trainers in the industry, and are continuous students of dog behavior and psychology. All of our dogs complete standard training and adopters are given the information and tools needed to continue their training with our support. A well-educated owner and a trained dog are the best combination for a successful and satisfying relationship that will last a lifetime.
Why the "Wallflowers Shine Project"?
When we adopted one of our personal dogs from a shelter, he was extremely shy and timid. We enrolled him in training classes where they lovingly called him a wallflower. Training helped him gain confidence and brought out the best in him. It made him shine.
The majority of dogs in shelters have experienced neglect in its many forms. Many have been undersocialized, have received very little mental or physical stimulation, are misunderstood in terms of what their breed needs to succeed, and have received very little to no training.
The vast majority of shelter dogs are great dogs. Many are wallflowers that are just waiting for an opportunity to shine. We give them that opportunity. We see their potential. We bring out the best in them through clear communication and expectations. We provide them with what they likely never had; structure, guidance, rules, boundaries, and consistency so their future will be much brighter than their past.
Adoptable Dogs
This adorable little girl is Layla. She was very shy when she first arrived, but has really come out of her shell. She is sweet, playful and very affectionate towards her people. She is crate and potty trained, and walks great on a leash.
This is Emma, she is an affectionate girl about 3 years old and 65 lbs.. She is crate and potty trained, and knows general obedience. She is indifferent to other dogs, and while she can peacefully coexist with other dogs she would probably love to be the only dog in the house. She will do best in a home that is comfortable providing a structured environment and leadership, and sets rules and boundaries.
This beautiful girl is Mocha. We think she is a shepherd mix, possibly some Dutch Shepherd and Doberman? She is very sweet, walks well on a leash and gets along well with other dogs.
Our first Cane Corso here at the rescue! This pretty girl is Midnight. Very calm, sweet and quickly learning her leash manners. She is a big girl, about 95 lbs, but is very gentle. She does get the zoomies, and does well with other respectful dogs. She is up for short hikes but is not an endurance athlete, her favorite activity is chewing on a bone on her bed.
Sweet boy Ben is still looking for his new home. He is about 6 months old and 8 pounds. Crate trained, potty trained, good with cats and so very affectionate!
New Arrivals
Dahlia just arrived in Oregon, and what a sweet girl she is. At 10 months old and maybe 40 pounds, she will make a wonderful companion for someone.
This beautiful girl is Thelma. She is about 3 years old with a great temperament, she will be staying with a foster while we get to know her better.
Recent Adoptions
For the first time since starting the rescue, we were able to travel to shelters in California to meet available dogs before bringing them to Oregon. And the result is Francisco, one of the sweetest dogs ever. Smart, playful, potty trained, just an all-around wonderful pup.
Adding a happy ending to this story, not long after Francisco arrived at our rescue, we were contacted by his family. They had adopted him several months before, and he had gone missing. They searched and watched shelter pages for any sign of him, but saw nothing. Then his picture appeared at the shelter where we had met him. The shelter referred the family to us, and they then drove to Oregon to retrieve their boy. The family was together again!
This handsome boy is Scout. He spent time with a fabulous foster/trainer who really helped him with his social skills and look at him now. Adopted into a new home with a great life ahead of him. Way to go Scout!
What's Happening
We’re excited to have completed our dog cottage. The cottage is designed to safely and comfortably house our dogs during their temporary stay at our rescue. It is surrounded by a fully fenced play yard where they can release some energy and where we can work on some training and socialization with them. We are able to accommodate 6 dogs. All kennels are heated/air conditioned. Woohoo!
